Netflix on PS3 & Xbox 360 Just a Rumor!
It seems that there are a lot of blogs out there claiming that Netflix is going to extend their streaming video features to the Playstation 3 & Xbox 360. I have to say that these reports hold no facts, and they are merely based on hearsay. It’s basically like those stories you heard as a kid like “I know this guy who knows a guy who…”, which is just complete garbage. I feel obligated to put a little reality into this situation. Keep the rumors in third grade will ya?
Now I am not against this happening, but I just don’t think it is going to happen anytime soon. It kind of pisses me off that people report things like this to hype people up when in the end there is a great chance that Netflix will never even act on this. I mean they don’t even rent games so why are they concerned with the gaming market? I feel that if they really want to up their game and service…they should offer video game rentals first…not downloadable movies to your PS3 and Xbox 360. They could make so much more off of that rather than selling movie rentals. Watch out, you may see a blog claiming that soon!…lol. So will it happen? Sure it could happen, but until Netflix announces something publicly don’t get your hopes up. Too many reports like this cause a big craze, and then just lead to a big let down for those who were excited about it. Just keep your eyes and ears open, and don’t rely on the current stories or discussions that are floating around. It’s just pointless…
This has nothing to do with gaming, it has to do with expanding their reach. They are already in talks with LG to bring us hardware to stream videos directly to our TV’s, why wouldn’t they want to include that functionality in hardware that people already have in their homes? If Netflix subscribers could access the downloadable content through hardware they already own, it negates the cost for the consumer to start using that functionality. If we’re limited to only the LG unit, fewer people will use that service, unless the LG unit is very low cost.
It’s not about them extending their reach…it’s about a rumor that is going nowhere. Netflix has yet to confirm anything of the sort so the question of them providing access via consoles is irrelevant. It’s simply not in the works yet, so people should give up on the thought until we get an official announcement.
