We all love gaming…but do you know the history and facts behind it? Don’t worry I am not going to give you a History lesson and quiz you after you read this. That’s not what I am talking about. There are a lot of really interesting things that have happened in the gaming industry that you probably don’t even know about. In fact, its filled with strange facts and ironies that are pretty entertaining to read. Anyway, let’s get to the list!

• Nintendo means “leave luck to heaven”
• Nintendo is over 118 years old…they originally made playing cards.
• Video Game concepts date back as early as 1949
• The first home console was the Magnavox Odyessy and was made in 1972!
• Pac-Man was originally names Puck-Man because of his shape, however, they feared that the “P” would look like an “F” and create a not so marketable word lol. After giving it some thought they decided to go with Pac-Man instead.
• Atari was an American company yet it has a Japanese name.
• The Japanese company known as “Sega” was created by an American.
• Out of all the electronic products created by Sony…their Playstation consoles.
• 62% of all gamers…play games online.
• 42% of all online gamers are female.
• The first true video arcade game was called Spacewar! and was made by a group of friends at MIT.
